John recommends that you look through all the catalogs on-line and write down your favorite styles and bring them when you visit the store. This way John, the tux guy or his employees can pull the dresses for you. It is very difficult for brides to look through the racks and see how styles would look seeing them on a hanger. Many brides get over-whelmed seeing racks and racks of dresses. Since we sell dresses off the rack to customers, your favorite dress may not be in stock when you visit our store, but we can get it for you to look at. These are just some of the reasons we recommend that you look through our catalogs on-line before visiting our store.

The biggest mistakes that brides make is ordering dresses on-line or from an unauthorized retailer.
A bride should always go to the designer's web site and see if the company with whom she is doing business is an authorized retailer and Google the company name and the word "complaints" to see complaints lodged against the company. An unauthorized retailer is someone who orders dresses through a third party; either because they do not want to purchase the store samples or they were not compliant with designer guidelines or they did not meet the designer's strict compliance codes. In other words, they say they can get you the dress "cheaper", but can they measure correctly? Are they going to be around after they take your money? On-line and unauthorized stores make the bride a "bridal shop user". The bride sees what she likes at a local bridal store, then orders on-line or from someone promising big savings. The bride should check out the complaints on-line about a store before ordering. This is one reason there are only 5 bridal shops in Daytona Beach. Who is a third party? In the bridal industry, the third party is called the "trans-shipper". The bride orders from someone who promises lower prices and delivers of the time. Usually delivery is late because the store where the dress gets shipped has to reship the box to the store where the bride placed the order..

What if a trans-shipper gets caught trans-shipping? The designer will not deliver them any future orders, even if some brides paid the store directly. The bride has to call the designer and explain what happened, then pay another authorized retailer to receive her order. She has to pay twice for her dresses and go back to the unauthorized store to try to get her money back.

Some on-line companies are not authorized retailers and make dresses in China. China has no business regulation guidelines like we have here in the U.S. Many brides assume what they order is what they get. That is rarely the case. An example of one company on an auction site even tells you they just copy photos of dresses on-line and try to copy them as close as they can if you read their FAQ page.. English is phrased different than some foreign languages, so mis-interpretation is a common occurrence. Read FAQ from this one company and you get can ask "Who would order from there?" Answer: someone who didn't Google them on-line to read complaints or someone who did not read FAQ on the company web site. They say sizes may not be the same because they have a different size chart and colors may not be the same because they only carry certain colors. A bridesmaid ordered a dress in a green, size 14 from this company because it was only $60, and received a blue, size 10. It was supposed to be halter style and it arrived with a square neckline. How close is close? Now the bride is out of $60.00. Does she want to over-night it back to get it "closer" because the wedding is 1 week away. Over-night to China is usually 2-3 days and cost about $200.00, then shipping it back to the bride is even more money.

We will make appointments 24/7 to accomodate brides and grooms who cannot visit our store during our regular business hours. Some mis-information brides are given by company owned stores to fall into the "profit trap" or not properly explained.:
1 If you have bridesmaids out of town, it is recommended that they buy the bridesmaids dresses at the same time from the same store to assure the same dye lots. Company owned stores will tell the bride that the bridesmaids can order from different stores at different times around the country and get all the same dye lots. This way they get the business and don't have to have bridesmaids call in measurements. Brides believe it. Or worse, the big chain store does NOT inform the bride that she may have a dye lot variation by not ordering all the dresses from the same store at the same time. The bride may have a new sales person that did not know any better or a commissioned sales person who needs more money. I have seen the dresses come in a spectrum of different shades of the same color. The brides, moms, dads, and attendants complained to the store, but the store's response "no refunds or exchanges". The brides even file complaints on-line and write bad reviews about the stores, but brides do not read reviews on-line before dealing with the company because the high-pressured sales person already made the sale.

2 The large chain stores do alterations on-site. Yes, you get professional alterations, Yes, they do a good job. Yes, you pay double or triple the price for alterations then you would locally in Daytona Beach., Sometimes the bride will pay more for alterations on her wedding dress than the price of the dress. What the store did not explain is that alterations are not done in one visit. The bride has to return for two or three fittings. If the store is out of town, that is plenty of gas and mileage on your car. There are many seamstresses in town that offer you professional service at one-half to one-third of the price and no traveling. The stores that have in-store alterations with a seamstress on-site will charge you double the price because you pay the seamstress for doing the job and the store gets a cut for having a seamstress in their store. This usually does not apply to seamstresses that own and operate their own store, but it does pertain to large company owned stores because they had to rent extra space to make room for a seamstress on-site. Believe me, it is for additional profits, not as a courtesy to the bride as they may lead you to believe. At John's Bridal & Tux World in Daytona Beach, we stand behind the seamstresses we recommend and make no commissions, nor get a kick-back or any other financial gain, plus the bride saves lots of money. John wants your Special day to be perfect and does not want to be the topic of conversation about what went wrong at your wedding.

3 The large chain stores mis-lead the bride into believing it is easier to order a dress from them because all the attendants can go to their local large chain store to try on the dress. This is correct, but they don't explain to the bride that her attendants can go to their local boutique and find the same designer dress that John's Bridal & Tux World carries. Each company John deals with has a special section on their web site called a "store locater" Here, the out of town attendants can go to the designers web site and find a local store that carries the dress the bride has chosen. The attendant can try on the dress or a similar dress to determine the best size to order. Your attendant can go to the chain store or to her local boutique and get measured. John, the tux guy has a dress measuring chart the bridesmaid can print out on-line, then call in her measurements or fax them and call in a credit card for the required down payment. John does not charge Florida sales tax to attendants that live out of state as long as the attendant calls in her measurements from out of the state of Florida and John ships the dress to the attendant. John charges a $10.00 shipping and handing fee on all shipments of dresses to the lower 48 states. John, the tux guy ships around the world. John, the tux guy, has over 12 years experience dealing in dresses and offers personal, knowledgeable service. Someone at another shop not measuring correctly can cost you $100 of additional alteration charges. Yes, even the large chain stores will charge you more for the alterations if "they" mess up on measuring you. Mis-measuring happens regularly. Is this another way the large chain stores are making an additional profit? To increase the value of their stock or just incompetent sales personel. Either way, the bride or her attendants pay. At John's Bridal & Tux World if a dress comes in wrong, John the tux guy will work with the bride or bridesmaid to retify the situation. Weight gain or loss or not getting professional measurements will add to the cost of alterations wherever the dresses get purchased.

4 The large chain stores offer a "big discount" on bridesmaids dresses if you buy the bridesmaids dresses from them. John's Bridal & Tux World's prices are usually lower, even after the discounts. If not, we will price match for like designer and style. The dresses are made at the same time, from the exact same factories, by the exact same designers, and will arrive in the same time frame, but can be up to 25% less at John's Bridal & Tux World.

5 The large chain stores have a large turnover of employees on a regular basis. This is because dealing with brides can be frustrating and demanding, the bridal gowns cause many ladies back problems having to rehang so many bridal gowns that get tried on all day long, the lack of knowledge about the products can be frustrating, and some employees miss too much work. John, the tux guy has been dealing with the same designers over 12 years or as long as they have been in business; Alexia Designs, Alfred Angelo, Bill Levkoff, Jasmine B 2, Roberta aka L.A. Glo, Les Soirees, Forever Yours aka Forever Bridal, Private Collection aka Pretty Maids, T.R. Thornton and Eden Bridal bridesmaids. Other designers John has represented for a few years are After Six, Alfred Sung, Dessy, DaVinci Bridal bridesmaids, Impression Bridal bridesmaids, and Landa Designs. John, the tux guy tries to answer all the bride's questions personally so you get the correct answers.

MMP - Minimum Pricing Policies
Because many bridal shops discount their dresses so low it runs other bridal shops out of business, some designers have started starting a minimum pricing policy MPP. Mon-Cheri, Jasmine, Alexia Designs, Forever Yours, Mori Lee & Private Collection are just some of the designers that have dictated the minimum price an authorized retailer is allowed to charge for their product. What about an unauthorized retailer? They can charge whatever they want until they get caught and have the dresses trans-shipped through a third party. The local authorized retailer does not make any sales, the trans-shippers start making a nice additional profit, and the designers still sell the same amount of dresses and make the same profit. Slower sales, higher prices for supplies, higher taxes, and brides that are not shopping at their local stores are not bad enough; now the local economy gets stifled further by trans-shippers who may be as far away as Washington state selling to an unauthorized store in Florida. Is MPP good for the industry. Yes and no. No one is policing the industry. If stores only had one authorized retailer so many miles apart, that would help considerably. Too many companies sell to "everyone". If companies would ask for the bride's name and phone number when orders are placed, if companies would pay someone a "bounty" to catch a trans-shipper, if the brides would check out who they do business with before placing an order; this would all help. Not many brides will complain about trans-shippers until they get ripped off. The bridal industry receives 1000's of complaints a year from brides that either ordered on-line or from someone that was not authorized to sell the designer's products. They explain to the bride that she should have checked if they were an authorized retailer on their web site. When a bride orders from John's Bridal & Tux World, she receives a yellow confirmation post card in the mail about one week after placing the order. We carry every style in their catalog and every bridesmaid style they show on-line. They have a larger variety on-line then they have in the catalogs they hand out to the brides. Delivery is usually 12 weeks, but they can rush the dress as fast as 2 weeks for an additional fee. Prices on Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses range from $112.00 - $155.00 . They do not charge extra for plus sizes and many dresses are available in toddler size to 28w. Alfred Angelo does charge an additional fee for extra length, which is 3" longer than normal.

After Six / Alfred Sung / Dessy / Twist wrap dress convertible dress. These companies are owned by Rosenthal Group of New York and have been around for a long time. They are new to our store as we acquired their samples in 2008. We do not have the older style samples, but we can order all styles in any sizes and colors. Normal delivery is 8 weeks, but the bride can pay an additional rush fee and receive the dresses as fast as 3-4 weeks. Sizes above a size 16 are an additional fee. Additional length for ladies over 5'10" is available on styles for an additional fee. Prices range from $109.00 - $239.00. Alfred Sung being the lower priced, After Six is the middle range pricing and Dessy is the high-end line. Sometimes I have extra swatches to give the bride with her order, however I do not have all colors and the company charges $15.00 plus shipping for a color swatch. The Convertible dress / twist wrap dress is available in 10 days, see our immediate delivery section. Dessy has Destination wedding dresses for beach weddings in Daytona Beach and around the world, John's Bridal & Tux World in Daytona Beach sells these Destination bridal gowns for the bride that is having a simple beach wedding in Daytona Beach or around the world.

Bill Levkoff has been in our store 22 years. Their prices average slightly higher than average, but brides are willing to pay more for these dresses because of the fashion and quality. Delivery is normally 10 weeks, but they can deliver the dresses as fast as 5 weeks for an additional fee. There are additional prices for sizes over 16 or extra length. dresses are available in at least 15 colors and we carry all the best sellers in our store. Price range $125.00 - $229.00.

DaVinci Bridal bridesmaids have been in our store a couple years. The price range is more affordable for the bride and the dress quality is good and their dress fashions are up to date. The price range is $98.00 - $139.00, comfortable for bride's budgets. Many styles are immediate delivery in limited sizes and colors. Regular delivery is around eight weeks. Any sizes above a size 16 is an additional fee. Rush delivery is available to receive any dress in any color and size in about 4 weeks.

Eden Bridal bridesmaids have been in our store over 22 years. Delivery time is usually 12 weeks, but you can order dresses as fast as 5 weeks. They offer select styles and colors for immediate delivery. dresses are available in over 40 colors. Older dresses have a different size chart than the newer styles. Eden offers the bride the opportunity to change the color or fabric on dresses for an additional fee. Many dresses are available in toddler sizes to size 32.

Forever Yours has been our #1 bridesmaid dress company for the past ten years, 1998 - 2008. Price is the same for all sizes., toddler - adult size 30. Delivery is usually 12 weeks, but you can get them in seven weeks by paying an additional charge. dresses are available in 55 colors and we carry styles in our store. Since they implimented the minimum pricing policies, the new price range is between $129 - $209.

Landa Designs delivers all 150 styles, 50 colors, and 15 sizes they offer in 4 -5 weeks. Rush delivery is 3 week delivery for an additional fee. dresses are priced $98.00 - $139.00.

L & L Rentals are bridesmaid dress rentals in many sizes and colors. Measurements needed for the dresses are slightly more complicated because L&L Rentals alters the dresses prior to shipping them to the store at no charge. Bridesmaids dresses rent for $69.00 - $79.00 and bridal gowns rent for $200.00 including veil and slip. Order time is 1 - 3 weeks.

Private Collection bridesmaids dresses are found in the bridesmaids section of my web site as "Pretty Maids". Usual delivery is 10-12 weeks, but now offer a rush delivery as fast as 2 weeks with direct delivery for an additional fee. Additional fees are charged for all sizes over size 20 or for added length.
